Restrictions on Access to Printers ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- About the SNMP Community Name This tool accesses printers via SNMP. SNMP-based access to a printer requires specification of a community name, but this tool has been configured to access printers using the printer's default community name. For information about changing a printer's community name, please refer to your printer's instruction manual, or to the on-line help of CentreWare Internet Services. When you change a printer's community name, you can no longer use this tool to access the printer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Notes and Restrictions ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.1 Notes about NetWare Setup Wizard (for printers listed below) - Document Centre 236/286 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.1.1 Finding the context for a NDS tree The context may not display correctly in the [Find Context] dialog box if the network becomes unstable when you are using [NetWare Printer Setup]. If this happens, log out from the NetWare server and log in again to the NDS tree. You should also close [NetWare Printer Setup] and then restart it and continue what you were doing. 5.1.2 Number of characters in the name of a NetWare-connected printer You can use a maximum of 31 alphanumeric characters when specifying the name of the NetWare-connected printer with [NetWare Printer Setup]. 5.1.3 [Assigned Queues] list when mode is changed from RPRINTER to PSERVER On some NetWare servers, if you change the mode of a printer that is connected via PSERVER from RPRINTRER to PSERVER, the [Assigned Queues] list may contain some queues assigned to other printers connected to PSERVER from a previous connection. If this happens, please delete any unwanted queues from the [Assigned Queues] list. 5.1.4 Searching for a printer with a Japanese name If you have given a NetWare-connected printer a Japanese name, the printer name may not display correctly in search results. If this happens, please use capital letters and numbers. 5.1.5 Configuring a printer that has been paused You cannot use [NetWare Printer Setup] to configure a printer that has been temporarily paused. You must resume the paused printer in order to configure it with [NetWare Printer Setup]. 5.2 Notes about NetWare Configuration Tool (for other printers) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.2.1 Finding the context for a NDS tree The context may not display correctly in the [Find Context] dialog box if the network becomes unstable when you are using [NetWare Printer Setup]. If this happens, log out from the NetWare server and log in again to the NDS tree. You should also close [NetWare Printer Setup] and then restart it and continue what you were doing. 5.2.2 Number of characters in the name of a NetWare-connected printer You can use a maximum of 31 alphanumeric characters when specifying the name of the NetWare-connected printer with [NetWare Printer Setup]. 5.2.3 [Assigned Queues] list when mode is changed from RPRINTER to PSERVER On some NetWare servers, if you change the mode of a printer that is connected via PSERVER from RPRINTRER to PSERVER, the [Assigned Queues] list may contain some queues assigned to other printers connected to PSERVER from a previous connection. If this happens, please delete any unwanted queues from the [Assigned Queues] list. 5.2.4 Searching for a printer with a Japanese name If you have given a NetWare-connected printer a Japanese name, the printer name may not display correctly in search results. If this happens, please use capital letters and numbers. 5.2.5 Configuring a printer that has been paused You cannot use [NetWare Printer Setup] to configure any of the following printers that has been temporarily paused. You must resume the paused printer in order to configure it with [NetWare Printer Setup]. - Document Centre 236/286 5.2.6 Repeating configuration of the same printer If you want to repeat the configuration of the same printer using [NetWare Printer Setup - Other Printers], please close and then restart [NetWare Printer Setup - Other Printers] before continuing with the configuration. 5.2.7 Automatic configuration of the NetWare print server password [NetWare Printer Setup - Other Printers] can automatically set the print server's password during configuration of a Network-connected printer. Please reset the print server password, if you subsequently want to use NetWare Utilities II to set RPRINTER as the printer. 5.2.8 Changing a printer's TCP/IP settings An error will be displayed if you change the TCP/IP settings of a TCP/IP-connected printer that you have found using [NetWare Printer Setup - Other Printers]. This is because communication with the printer is broken if the printer's TCP/IP settings are changed. However, despite the loss of communication, the new settings are implemented in the printer. 5.2.9 Using [Large Fonts] Some menu items may not display if you have selected [Large Fonts] as the system font size in [Control Panel] > [Display] > [Settings] > [Advanced] > [General] (for Windows 2000). If this happens, please select [Small Fonts] as the font size. 5.2.10 Deleting queue users If only one user is displayed in the [Assigned Users] list in the [Select Queue Users] screen of [NetWare Printer Setup - Other Printers], and you delete that user by using the [Delete] button, the user may not disappear from [Assigned Users]. The user's queue assignment has, in fact, been cancelled. You can avoid this by installing Microsoft's Internet Explorer 4.0x/5. 5.2.11 Printers that can be set in [NetWare Printer Setup - Other Printers] When you search for a printer on the network using [NetWare Printer Setup - Other Printers], the names of printers that can be configured are displayed in bold. Printers' whose names are displayed in light font cannot be configured using [NetWare Printer Setup - Other Printers]. The printers that can be configured are listed in the Manual. 5.2.12 Restoring a printer's factory default values If you use [NetWare Printer Setup - Other Printers] to restore the factory default values of a printer that has already been configured for NetWare, you may be requested to log in to the NetWare server and tree as a user with administrator privileges. This is because the printer setup information on the NetWare server and tree would have been deleted. If this happens, please log in again to the NetWare server and tree as a user with administrator privileges, or initialize the printer by selecting [Printer Settings] -> [Initialization Settings] -> [Initialize System Memory/Hard Disk Drive] > [Initialize]. However, if you do this, you will not delete any device information from the NetWare server and tree. 5.3 Notes about using a personal firewall ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a personal firewall function in Windows XP and some Antivirus software. If this function is effected, the network communication which this tool needs may be intercepted. If the "Internet connectivity fire wall" of Windows XP is effected, the search function of a printer / compound machine cannot be used with this tool. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.
